Beautiful/Terrible

The new album is the second record from this San Francisco based piano & drum duo. In 2010 Kat Downs (piano/vocals) and Mike Thompson (drums) teamed up to experiment with the combination of classical piano and rock drumming and created their first EP, “The Push” They also developed a great live show. With their new material, the band enhanced their unique live sound and have been compared to Dresden Dolls mixed with Florence + The Machine. “Wow, they’re really loud!” They’re all rock, a little goth, a little prog, with melodic yet powerful songs.

The new album is available exclusively at our store. You can get a free download of their track “In Code” below. The album will be available on all the pertinent streaming sites; iTunes, Spotify, Amazon etc.

We’ll now… we got ourselves a little record label. Gun Horse Records is alive and well.

A new and truly independent record label, Gun Horse Records (GHR), has been launched in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Mission: Make music. Record. Pay the rent. Sleep. Start over.

The music industry could be considered to be in the worst decline as an industry, but what isn’t declining? The artists and their art. We’ve recognized this shift in the music industry, and believe that the independent artist can make it without big-label subjective ideas, over-processed logistics and red tape. GHR caters to the independent artist, and rewards the independent fan.
The music biz is now all about the artist being that “troubadour”. Artists should just simply play out, and their fan base will grow. GHR enables this process and provides fans a truly high-end experience. In contrast, many major labels try to deconstruct ways to throw money at their packaged products. It just isn’t working. The music is either good or it’s not.
All of our marketing and public relations is done in-house, without big physical distribution. We are nimble, and we utilize all of the powerful online tools available to provide a great experience for fans.

SF Heroes by Cosmicube

“Art project”

Check out the new iPhone project “SF Heroes” I did the UI & Graphic Design for this project by Cosmicube and for the city of San Francisco’s emergency preparedness dept.

The press release just hit last night, and this was featured on CBS5 KPIX evening news on Friday the 14th. (Check out my shaky iPhone recording of it here on Greg’s FB page.) In addition, the SF Examiner and NBC Bay Area wrote articles on the app release. 

They wanted a fun comicbook look. It’s a little retro and a lot bold. So go download the app on iTunes now, and keep an out for the Android version down the road.

I’m excited to announce, (well pre-announce) that Gun Horse Records is alive, well… um, soon. At least the domain and temporary site is up. www.gunhorse.com

A little about my new to-be label:

Welcome to Gun Horse Records! We are small Northern California based, indie record label. In 2011, we have realized the shift in the music industry. The independent artist can make it without, big label subjective ideas, process, logistics and red tape. Hopefully, that’s where we come in. It’s about the art of music and performance, not just a packaged vanilla product. This small label was started in the garage among the fog banks of the Northern California coast.

We cater to the independent artist, and the independent fan. We don’t have much money, but we look good doin’ what we’re doin’.

What we’re looking for:
We’re looking to engage and promote artists, who are looking to get dirty and scrape up their knees to get their art & music out there. We’re looking to be on the forefront of technology and make that love/hate relationship with the internet and make you shine.
